Writings by Patrick M Brennan
This is a good representative sample of my writings. Mostly I write plays and monologues, but I may post some of my stories and essays here too. If you would like to perform any of the plays on this page, or you would just like to tell me what you think about them, don't hesitate to contact me.
Hack the Vote
Dark Comedy, One Act, 2m1f So, how about those electronic voting machines? Aren't they great? That was what Dean thought when he took a job with one of the manufacturers. Now he's trying to convince his pal Rob that it wasn't such a good idea after all. A couple of hackers discuss politics in the electronic age and come to a surprising discovery!

Dark Comedy, One Act, 3m What would you do to prop up the rapidly sinking value of your dot-com stock options? Would you lie to a coworker? Hack his laptop? Bug his office? Set him up to be fired?

First Person Shooter
Dark Comedy, Full Length This is my latest full-length
play. It won the Best Plays 2000 competition at Stageplays.com,
and was published
by the Internet Theatre Bookshop in January 2001. First Person
Shooter is a full-length dark comedy about the blame game (particularly
the blame-the-games blame game) which occurs in the wake of a high
school shooting. The shooter played Doom, you see. It is a satirical look
at the way modern society reacts to violence.

This play was selected to be a part of the Boston
Theater Marathon in 2002, and will be published as part of Baker's Plays Boston Theater Marathon IV collection, which is expected in early 2004.

Old Flame
Comedy Monologue This is a monologue about a woman who
quit smoking after her lover left her. But she can't seem to bring
herself to throw away her lighters.
Stewart
Tragedy, Full Length My second play, this is a moody
brood set in the future, when the cars are smart enough to drive themselves.
And attempt suicide.
Brennschluss
Tragedy, Full Length This was my first play. It's
about Werhner von Braun, Hitler, and the morality of building rockets.
It's a pretty ambitious play, and I still like it, even though I made a
lot of first-timer mistakes.
Taking Liberties
Comedy Science Fiction Monologue The government
can't actually force you to have the thing implanted in your brain.
They will do their best to talk you into it, though.
